Shawn started Square Dancing at age 12 and shortly after went on to learn Rounds and Advanced. Shawn’s interest in music led him to start recording Square Dance music and learning to call at age 13. He now has over 60 records to his credit, and calls regularly around the Tri State Area.
Shawn is now 19 years old and a Graduate of West Allegheny High School where he was actively involved in Band and Chorus. Shawn’s current plans are to pursue an education in music and continue calling squares professionally.
Shawn called his first National Square Dance Convention in Detroit in 2011.That same year he also called the WV and PA Conventions. Shawn returned in 2012 to the WV and PA State conventions and then to Oklahoma for his third National in 2013. Shawn continues to call at the PA, WV, Ohio and National conventions and has just returned from The 64th National convention in Massachusetts.
Over the past 3 years Shawn has become a huge part of Gold Rush and now produces and arranges his own Square Dance music. He is also heavily involved with marketing and multimedia development for the promotion of MWSD. In 2013, Shawn produced the video entitled This Is Modern Pattern Dancing which has generated nationwide interest in our activity and sparked the development of The Modern Pattern Dance Project.
Shawn is a founding member, and the current president of the Pittsburgh Area Callers and Cuers Association, a Callerlab member, a representative to Callerlab’s committee on Youth, Marketing, Public Relations,and Record Producers Committee. Shawn is currently the most recorded teenage Square Dance Caller of all time. He calls beginner through A1 and is actively taking bookings.
In 2014, Shawn attended the Appalachian Callers School in Berkeley Springs, WV with Tom Miller, Betsy Gotta, and Ken Ritucci. Shawn is a co founder of the Modern Pattern Dance program and calls regularly for the Gold Rush Outlaws and Western Wranglers Modern Pattern Dance Groups. Shawn’s interests outside of Square Dancing include, history, politics, religion, musical theater, and music and video production.
